Hi I'm Danesha…People often believe that you need weeks to truly experience India.
I used to think the same.
My husband and I were travelling to Europe later that month, and since we needed to visit India for our visa appointments, we realised we had a small window of just a few days before continuing our journey. Instead of treating it as a stopover, we decided to turn it into something much more meaningful.
Our wedding anniversary was approaching, and we couldn't think of a better place to celebrate it than India.
Although our time was short, we wanted those few days to feel special. We weren't interested in rushing through a long list of tourist attractions. We wanted to experience Delhi like locals do, celebrate our anniversary somewhere memorable, and finally stand together in front of the Taj Mahal—a place we'd both dreamed about visiting for years.
Making the Most of a Short Journey
Planning a trip that lasted only a few days turned out to be more difficult than planning a long holiday. Every hour mattered, and we didn't want to waste time figuring out transportation, searching for restaurants, or wondering whether we were making the most of our visit.
That's when we reached out to GoPlanOut.
Instead of filling our itinerary with endless sightseeing, they helped us slow things down. They recommended beautiful cafés for breakfast and dinner, suggested peaceful places where we could spend quality time together, helped us understand Delhi's metro system, and even arranged a local photographer so we could celebrate our anniversary with photographs we'd treasure forever.
Sometimes it's the small details that make a journey unforgettable.
Discovering Delhi Like a Local
Before visiting, I imagined Delhi as a busy capital full of traffic and crowds.
While that energy certainly exists, I quickly realised there was another side to the city that many visitors never experience.

Instead of relying on taxis everywhere, we explored Delhi using the metro just like local residents. At first, I wasn't sure how complicated it would be, but after receiving simple instructions and route recommendations, we found it surprisingly easy. Traveling alongside students, office workers, and families gave us a completely different perspective of the city.
It no longer felt like we were simply visiting Delhi.
For a few days, we felt like we were living in it.
A Morning We'll Never Forget
One of the highlights of our anniversary was our photoshoot at Lodhi Gardens.
The peaceful gardens, centuries-old monuments, and beautiful greenery created the perfect setting for capturing such a special occasion. Early morning sunlight filtered through the trees while people quietly walked, exercised, and enjoyed the calm surroundings.
It was difficult to believe we were still in the middle of one of India's busiest cities.
Those photographs became far more than anniversary pictures.
They became memories of a journey we hadn't even planned to take.
Finding Joy in the Little Things
Some of my favourite moments weren't famous attractions at all.
They were simple experiences that made us feel connected to the city.
We spent hours discovering charming cafés, enjoying long breakfasts without looking at the time, and ending our evenings over beautiful dinners that felt worthy of celebrating another year of marriage.
One afternoon, we wandered through Sarojini Market.
I'd heard so much about it before arriving, and exploring it was an experience in itself. Colourful clothing, handcrafted accessories, local fashion, and the lively atmosphere made shopping feel less like buying souvenirs and more like discovering a part of Delhi's everyday life.
I returned to the hotel carrying far more shopping bags than I had originally planned.
My husband still reminds me about that.
The Taj Mahal Was Everything We Hoped For
No anniversary celebration in India could ever feel complete without visiting Agra.
Like millions of people around the world, we'd seen countless photographs of the Taj Mahal.
Nothing prepares you for seeing it with your own eyes.
Standing together in front of one of the world's greatest symbols of love, on our anniversary, was a moment neither of us will ever forget.
There was something incredibly emotional about it.
The crowds faded into the background.
The cameras disappeared.
For a few quiet moments, it felt like it was just the two of us standing there, reflecting on our own journey together.
Sometimes places become famous for a reason.
The Taj Mahal is one of them.
A Short Journey That Felt Complete
When we first planned this trip, I worried that four days wouldn't be enough.
Looking back, I couldn't have been more wrong.
Because we weren't trying to see everything, we were able to truly enjoy the moments we had.
We explored beautiful cafés.
Learned to navigate Delhi's metro.
Captured memories in Lodhi Gardens.
Shopped like locals.
Celebrated our anniversary over wonderful meals.
And fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting the Taj Mahal together.
For such a short journey, it somehow felt incredibly complete.
Until Next Time, India ❤️
When our flight left India, we weren't saying goodbye forever.
We were simply saying,
"We'll come back with more time."
Because four days gave us just enough to fall in love with the country.
Next time, we'll stay longer.
There are still so many places waiting to be discovered.
And if our first visit taught us anything, it's that India isn't measured by how many days you spend here.
It's measured by the memories you take home.
