ABOUT PLANOUT

India isn't hard. It's just unfamiliar.

India isn't hard. It's just unfamiliar.

Most people who worry about travelling India have never been. Most people who've been want to go back. We're a small team of Indians who got tired of watching that gap stay open. Planout helps travellers explore our country on their own terms — no packaged tour, no fixed route, no minibus — with a real person on the other end of the phone when something goes sideways. Started in 2025 . 120+ travellers helped so far, from 20+ countries.

OUR STORY

OUR STORY

Why we started

Why we started

Planout is an Indian company, built by Indians who love exploring their own country. Based in Bengaluru, we spend much of our time travelling across India, meeting people, discovering places, and seeing the country beyond the headlines.

One Monday night in August 2025, friends we'd met while travelling called us from New Delhi. They were overwhelmed. A driver had taken them to a "government emporium," they were getting conflicting travel advice, and they didn't know who to trust.

We stayed on the phone until everything was sorted.

Within days, more travellers reached out with similar questions.
"Is this price fair?"
"Which train is the right one?"
"Is it safe to go there alone?"

That's when we realised something.

The problem wasn't India. It was arriving without someone you could trust.

Because we knew another India—the shopkeeper in Meghalaya who walked us to the right bus stand, the family in Kerala who welcomed us before we'd even ordered, and the guide in Hampi who told us not to waste money on an experience that wasn't worth it that season.

Those stories rarely travel as far as the scam stories do.

So we built the platform we wished our friends had that night: Planout.

A place for honest travel planning, local knowledge, and recommendations that put travellers first—not commissions.

Founded in Bengaluru, India in 2025, Planout has already helped 120+ travellers explore India independently with personalised planning and trusted local support across all 28 states and 8 union territories.

The things we refuse

The things we refuse

Most travel companies in India make money on commission. The hotel pays them. The driver pays them. The emporium pays them 30% of whatever you spend. That's why you end up somewhere you didn't choose. We decided not to build that business. So:

We take no commissions.

Not from hotels, drivers, shops, or restaurants. Nobody pays us to recommend them.

We don't sell packages.

No fixed itineraries, no group departures, no "Golden Triangle 6D/5N."

We don't follow you around.

Your local buddy is on WhatsApp. Travel independently, not alone.

No-Fee Direct Booking

Whether it's a train, bus, or experience, you pay only the actual price. Nothing extra.

This is a worse business model than the commission one. We know. We chose it because the alternative means quietly steering people toward whoever pays us most, and there's no version of that we could live with. It's also why we charge $0.99 a day — roughly the price of a chai and a samosa — instead of a percentage of your trip. Small, honest, and it doesn't grow when your holiday does.
